Expert Rider: A man who was injured in an SUV crash near his home

A man has died in a crash that left two people injured in southern California.

The man was in his driveway when a SUV struck a utility pole on Highway 1 and crashed, said a statement from the California Highway Patrol.

The driver, who was not identified, was taken to a hospital but died later of his injuries, according to the statement.

The driver of the SUV was not hurt, and investigators are trying to determine the cause of the crash, the statement said.

The crash was reported at about 1:15 p.m. at a home on South Los Angeles Boulevard, according a news release from the CHP.

A woman in her 70s was taken in a separate vehicle, and her husband, who is also in his 70s, was treated and released, the CHS said.

An official with the California Department of Motor Vehicles said the SUV belonged to the family of the man who died, but did not provide additional details.

A person who answered the phone at the home where the crash occurred declined to comment.

The CHP has not released the identity of the driver of that SUV, the agency said.
